FUT Method

The previously used mini and micrograft procedures are now considered medically outdated and no longer meet the current standards of modern hair transplantation. For this reason, this method has not been used in our partner clinics for over 15 years. Hair transplantation has significantly advanced worldwide and is now based on precise, follicle-based techniques.

One of these established methods is the FUT technique (Follicular Unit Transplantation). In this procedure, a narrow strip of skin is removed from the donor area at the back of the head, from which the individual natural follicular units are then precisely dissected under a microscope. These follicular units consist of one to several hairs, just like natural hair growth, and are then individually placed in the prepared recipient areas.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

Advantages
  • None – this method has not been used by our partner clinic since 2008.

Disadvantages
  • As with any surgical procedure, stitches are required for hair transplantation using the FUT method. This is a disadvantage if the hair is worn too short after the hair transplantation, making a thin scar line visible at the nape of the neck.

  • Obtaining over 1,200 grafts is almost impossible!

  • The risks, such as the danger of inflammation and injury to blood and nerve pathways, are significantly higher than with the FUE method.

  • Follow-up treatment in Germany is necessary (dressings change, stitches removal, check-up). Additional costs are incurred here, as the health insurance does not cover these.
