PRK Lasek

In PRK and LASEK, no corneal flap is created. Instead, the top cell layer of the cornea (epithelium) is carefully removed or loosened. Subsequently, the excimer laser shapes the corneal surface so that light is refracted correctly again.

After the treatment, a protective lens is placed to support the eye during the initial healing phase.

The structure of the cornea remains largely stable and is not stressed by a flap – an important advantage for patients with naturally thin corneas.

PRK with Wavefront

Using Wavefront-3D measurement analysis, the "genetic fingerprint" of the eye is determined individually and taken into account during the treatment of the cornea. In this method, only the corneal layer processing differs.

In PRK, the corneal layer flap is not lifted, but the superficial corneal layer is removed or detached because it is very thin. Subsequently, the actual laser treatment takes place. Finally, a protective lens is placed, which is removed once the own corneal layer has regenerated.

PRK without Wavefront

If you are not suitable for a Wavefront measurement, then PRK-LASIK will be performed without Wavefront 3D measurement.  PRK minimizes the risks during the creation of the corneal flap.

The doctors we refer you to will be happy to inform you about further options.
For all laser treatments, only disposable items are used. This reduces the risk of infection to zero.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PRK Lasek procedure?

The PRK/LASEK treatment is a short procedure. The treatment begins with the removal of the epithelium, which is the superficial cell layer of the cornea. Subsequently, the laser beam shapes the corneal tissue at the micrometer level. The cornea obtains the correct curvature, and the visual impairment is corrected.

Who is suitable for a PRK Lasek treatment?

In all three types of refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism), the PRK LASEK method for laser eye surgery is generally suitable. The following requirements must be met for the treatment of refractive errors: Wearers of glasses or contact lenses, at least 18 years old, stable vision for at least one year, LASIK treatment is not an option, sufficient corneal thickness, not pregnant, no eye diseases.

How long should the values be stable for a PRK Lasek treatment?

The values should remain stable for approximately one year before treatment. If in doubt, your visual acuity will be carefully checked by our specialists.
